Programme 2026
January 15 WELCOME BACK!

29 WORKSHOP Topic: ‘What Do Judges Look For’
We are often mystified by how the Judge perceives our competition images. This workshop will endeavour to provide some answers.
Facilitators: Mark Pedlar & Ray Goulter
February 12 COMPETITION: ‘Fences, Gates and Walls’
Any form of fences and/or gates and walls needs to be the main point of interest.
February 26 WORKSHOP Topic: TBA
Facilitator: TBA
March 12 GUEST SPEAKER: Peter Bos
You’ve seen plenty of photographs of fungi but Plasmodial Slime Moulds are something else! Peter specialises in photographing them. He is widely travelled and has spoken to many audiences on this and his other outdoor interests.
March 26 WORKSHOP Topic: ‘Black & White’
Black and White photographs go back to the very beginning of photography, but the impact they make is just as valid today as it was then. Colour has no place in B&W, so all the other elements such as composition, impact, technique, tonal range and subject matter become the major considerations Facilitators: Ray Goulter and Mark Pedlar
April 09 COMPETITION: ‘Birds and Animals’
Birds and animals will be the main feature for this competition. This subject is not reliant on the ‘Nature’ definition, so ‘the hand of man’ can be present.
April 23 WORKSHOP: Topic: ‘Light Painting’
Kerry will use her skills to demonstrate methods of using light to make photographs.
Facilitator: Kerry Malec
May 07 COMPETITION: ‘Astrophotography’
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No – it’s the night sky! Any photograph depicting stars, the moon or the heavens as the main subject will qualify for this competition.
May 21 WORKSHOP Topic: ‘Post Processing Software’
This is a subject that affects many of us who manipulate digital images. There are many post-processing software applications available. Bring your laptop.
Facilitator: Steve Wallace
June 04 GUEST SPEAKER: Chris Schulz
Chris a former member of our club, is an exponent of capturing street scenes and images evoking social documentary statements in photographs.
June 18 COMPETITION: ‘Tools Of Trade’
The tools of trade are the star attraction for your entries in this competition. You might like to set up a table-top showing workshop tools or capture a huge backhoe in operation. Whatever your choice, the tools we use, whether common or specialised, must be the main subject.
July 02 WORKSHOP Topic: ‘Close-up/Macro’
A number of methods can be used to render small objects to bigger than life-size in the frame, such as teleconverters, extension tubes, close-up filters, photo-stacking and special lenses, but they all come with various limitations. Tonight’s workshop will explore the possibilities and how to handle those limitations. Facilitator: Judy Sara
July 16 COMPETITION: ‘Street Photography / Social Documentary’
This subject follows on from the workshop with Chris Schulz. It requires images that evoke a social statement without denigrating the dignity of the subject (not always easy) or street scenes that depict the ‘heart’ of the location.
July 30 WORKSHOP Topic: TBA
Details of workshop TBA.
Facilitator: TBA
August 13 GUEST SPEAKER: James Allan
James, a former member of our club, will be telling us about his recent trip to northern NSW photographing birds, and sharing some of his expertise to assist us in improving our nature photography.
August 27 COMPETITION: ‘Multiple Exposure’
Interesting combinations can be obtained by having two or more exposures registered in a single frame. What can you devise?
September10 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Presentation of Reports and election of ex-officio officers, Committee, and other non-official positions.
September 24 WORKSHOP: Topic: ‘Restoring Old Photographs’
Restoring old photographs is a rewarding process that allows us to preserve family memories and historical records. Over time, photos can tear or fade or be damaged in other ways. This workshop explores a range of techniques – manual and digital – to restore these old images.
Facilitator: Paul Hughes
Note: Start preparing entries for Annual Exhibition – forms will be available.
October 08 COMPETITION: ‘Close Up/Macro’
A photograph that clearly shows the subject has been exposed from a very close proximity. Macro is often taken to mean that the size of the image on the sensor is the same as the object in real life.
October 22 WORKSHOP Topic: ‘Converting Old Slides and Photographs to Digital’
Mark will demonstrate and explain the various methods to bring your old images into the digital age. Facilitator: Mark Pedlar
November 05 GUEST SPEAKER: Stavros Pippos
Stavros is a renowned photographer who has published a number of photographic books depicting landscapes of South Australia. A favourite speaker at previous club meetings, this time he will discuss what he describes as his ’final book’ that has been several years in the making and includes examples of his latest photographic endeavours.
November 07 Annual Exhibition Judging
This is not a Club night.
19 ANNUAL EXHIBITION AND AWARDS
Our annual awards presentations for the yearly competition aggregates and the Annual Exhibition.
Bring a plate to share for supper.
